Nexus S gets Dual Core processor
All the Rumors of Nexus S appear to be true, but the phone was scrapped at the last minute when someone decided it needed to feature a dual-core processor in order to compete with the Tegra 2 phones coming out in early January.
The deal was not hard for Samsung, who already had the stuff ready, provided Nexus S to testers with the upgraded processors, but Android 2.3 was not optimized for dual-core hardware and thats what is causing the delay.
The story comes from sources of androidandme. Best Buy was supposed to launch the Nexus S on November 11th and that is the reason all of the Best Buy leaks occurred at once. The launch didn’t happen due to delay, but it did appear on web.
The scrapped Nexus S was originally Samsung Galaxy S with overclocked processor at 1.2Ghz. but the newer Cortex A8 is Dual core @ 1Ghz. So what does it look like? Almost or exactly like the pictures that got leaked from engadget.
So talking about the delay, all these rumors appear to be true. As per the plan, original Nexus S was ready on November 8th and go on sale November 11th, but someone in charge decided to plugin better hardware to make it more attractive after hearing the generic feedback about the performance of the device, internally.
Nexus S could use Samsung’s Orion dual-core processor, based on ARM Technology. Android 2.3 and the Nexus S are tied together and were meant to be launched at the same time, but Android 2.3 was not optimized for dual-core hardware.
Supporting dual-core for Android gingerbread won’t be that easy and quick. Google can endup shipping the device with dual core hardware with single core support in Android OS, and later update it with OTA, near holidays.
Native Dual core support in Android
Honeycomb (Android 3.0) is optimized for dual-core hardware but that version of Android is initially planned for tablets and is not designed to run on the Nexus S. So its all about timeliness that Google wants to stick with.
Verdict:
The Nexus S is real, it would ship with dual core processor and would ship within this year.
