It all started with low battery performance of smartphones, but now its more of a thing we love to showoff. Google Play is loaded with number of apps that either show the battery status or display advanced stats.

One of the best implementations of Battery indicators is done by MIUI ROM. ChargeBar brings the MIUI Style Circular Battery Indicator to all Android ROMs. It brings the same splendid circular progress of battery along with the charge animation.

Developed by Thomas Barrasso, ChargeBar displays the exact amount of charge left in your battery. It does this in the form of a completely customizable thin line.

App is full of settings that let you customize your ChargeBar. You can customize settings like starting on boot, hide in lock screen / full-screen apps to cosmetic ones like the ChargeBar’s color, height and position.

The default color for the Progress-Bar is Holo blue, the native color of Android 4.0 ICS, but you can choose your own color. Also, you can set the height of the battery bar indicator, default being 3 pixels. The best part is that you can place this bar above or below the Notification bar.

Works on Both Android Phones, Tablets Android 2.1 & above.

We love chargeBar and highly recommend it. Get it from Google Play. Best part, its free!

Now that game has gained big traction, the game has strong fanbase and its nearly time when its expands its scope to Android world.

Temple Run is fun, running along the walls of a ruined temple whilst being chased by rather scary looking Evil Demon Monkeys, it really takes the best out of us. The game challenges the player with fast reflexes around the corners and sudden barriers.

Temple Run brings the same smooth experience to nearly all Android phones, Tablets. The graphics, the concept of collecting as many gold coins as possible, is all same.

The game is free and is ad-free. However, you can make in-app purchases in order to buy packs of gold coins which in turn allow new characters and power ups to be purchased, improving the overall gameplay. The game has social aspect to it which lets you challenge your friends for the highest score, which makes it even more fun.

We tested the app on Nexus One, Desire HD, Galaxy Note. Its butter smooth on every single device.

One of the biggest pains with android had been its slow and sluggish Emulator.

The ADT 17 comes with lots of new features and bug fixes. Among our favorite features is the speed boost for the Android Emulator. Thanks to the AOSP & Intel, the android emulator now translates x86 instructions to ARM way more efficiently. To summarize two new improvements have been achieved to boost the performance of the Emulator:

GPU Accelerated UI for Emulator

x86 optimizations and speed Boost (plus OpenGL)

1. GPU Accelerated UI for Emulator

This is in an experimental stage, but it should enable basic Open ES 2.0 graphics possible on Emulator, along with GPU UI rendering, to speedup the OS.

In order to make the Android emulator run faster and be more responsive, you can configure it to take advantage of hardware acceleration, using a combination of configuration options, specific. You need:

Android SDK Tools, Revision 17 or higher

Android SDK Platform API 15, Revision 3 or higher

Use the Android SDK Manager to install these components:

Note: Not all applications are compatible with graphics hardware acceleration. In particular, the Browser application and applications using the
WebView
component are not compatible with graphics acceleration.

To configure a new AVD to use graphics acceleration:

From AVD Manager create a new AVD with the Target value of Android 4.0.3 (API Level 15), revision 3 or higher.

If you want to have graphics acceleration enabled by default for this AVD, in the Hardware section, click New, select GPU emulation and set the value to Yes.

Name the AVD instance and select any other configuration options.Caution: Do not select the Snapshot: Enabled option. Snapshots are not supported for emulators with graphics acceleration enabled.

Click Create AVD to save the emulator configuration.

Alternatively, you can enable it at Runtime:

Command line:

emulator -avd <avd_name> -gpu on

Using Eclipse:

In Eclipse, click your Android project folder and then select Run > Run Configurations > dialog, select your Android project run configuration or create a new configuration. Click Target tab. Select the AVD you created in the previous procedure. In the Additional Emulator Command Line Options field, enter: “-gpu on”. That’s it, Run your Android project using this run configuration.

2. x86 optimizations and speed Boost

Many modern CPUs provide extensions for running virtual machines (VMs) more efficiently. Taking advantage of these extensions with the Android emulator requires some additional configuration of your development system, but can significantly improve the execution speed.

Once you have determined that your CPU supports virtualization extensions, make sure you can work within these additional requirements of running an emulator inside an accelerated virtual machine, more details at the official development page.

You can now Install Android 4.0.3 ROM with HTC Sense 4.0 on Desire S, Desire HD. Since the One V is much newer and more powerful than the Desire devices, there could be a case for suggesting that the ROM may be rather unstable, but the developer claims that such things would never happen, the ROM would be a smooth experience on both older gen devices: Desire S, Desire HD.

In fact the ported ICS ROM is much faster than their native Gingerbread counterparts. However, at times there may be some gripes with camera, Wi-Fi hotspot, and SD card mounting functions, but these should get fixed soon, as per the developer.

How to Install Android 4.0.3 ICS on Desire S, Desire HD

Pre-requisites: Root your Android phone and flash ClockWorkMod Recovery on it, you can easily find tutorials for your Desire by googling ” Desire HD root gingerbread”

Download ROM (If link doesn’t work, checkout the official thread for mirror)

Step 1: Copy the ROM to sdcard directory on your Desire S or Desire HD and turn your device off.

Step 2: Press and hold the Volume Up + Power buttons until you get into ClockworkMod Recovery. Do a nandroid backup if you wish to stay safe.

Step 3: Do a wipe data/ factory reset, wipe cache partition and from advanced menu, wipe Dalvik cache.

Step 4: In main menu, choose install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard and select the .zip file. The process would start and would take couple of minutes.

Step 5: After flashing is complete, reboot. Bing, you will boot into Android ICS 4.0.3.

Enjoy the Official HTC ONE V’s ICS ROM on Desire S, Desire HD.

And when you’re all done, it runs your app by installing it to the device. It is suited for Tablets like Asus Transformer prime, where you’ve a full docking keyboard or any other tablet with external USB or bluetooth keyboard. It is compatible with Eclipse Android projects, copying the project does the job.

It features all the modern IDE features like:

code formatting, Syntax Highlighting

auto-completion

compile time error checking,

Integrated LogCat viewer

Automatic Quick-Fixes for many errors

Code Refactoring: renaming etc.

Organize imports, setter getters, etc.

Find occurrences, call hierarchies

and many more…

Its popular that Google names for Android based on alphabetically ordered deserts. The naming of Android OS so far:

2.0 Donut

2.1 Eclair

2.2 Froyo

2.3 Gingerbread

3.0 Honeycomb

4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

5.0 Jelly Bean

6.0 Key Lime Pie

Google provided a hint at this year’s MWC that would confirm Android 5.0. The company teased Android fans by bringing a bowl of Jellybeans in a surrounding it with Android dolls.

For the android 6.0. Key Lime Pie seems to make sense, according to various sources. Android 6.0 could arrive by end of 2012 or Q1- 2013. Key Lime Pie would redefine android’s vision with ‘Beyond smart’ features. Android 6.0 would run on 6-8core processors would virtually replace desktops and portable computing.

Key Lime Pie would be a Linux hybrid. It would be the time when open distributions like Ubuntu and other Linux Flavors would seamlessly integrate with Android OS and provide an experience you cant get on phone or desktop, today.

Key features of Key Lime Pro:

Simple and Beautiful

Super fast & ultra low power.

Android everywhere from low-end watches to self-driving cars.

Full control over OS: Key Lime Pie would give the full power to the user. Take control over

Designed to suit any type of use: Pro desktop, or portable mobile.

More to come.

Android started it’s journey with Donut followed by Eclair 2.1, Froyo 2.2, Gingerbread 2.3, Honeycomb 3.0, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 and Jelly bean 5.0, Key Lime Pie 6.0.

Jelly Bean aka Android 5.0 is scheduled for mid 2012 and would pump up the user experience.

So what’s new is coming with Android 5.0 – Jelly Bean?

Browser: Integrated Google Chrome

Android 4.0 has come with a lot of cool features like the fancy tabbed browsing and syncing features. The Chrome app adds lots of other desktop-like features to it. It would finally become faster than the stock browser by a big margin. Right now the experience is not all that great.

Stock File Manager on Android 5.0

Power of the Android is with it Openness. Android natively lets you access tje filesystem. However, you;ve to download one of the filew explorers from the MArket, this could change with Android 5.0 Jelly Bean. Though some good manufacturers are now providing File Managers in stock Rom but it will be better if Google itself adds this app in the OS Android 5.0 itself.

Themes

Ice cream sandwich bring s the much needed UI polish and overhaul. But there is no scope for customizing the color schemes, themes, at least in the stock android. Jelly bean would be the first step towards theme-ing in android. You would be able to download and customize color schemes as per your needs.

Lock screen widgets
You can get Lock screen widgets with a number of apps in the market, same is the case for several UI mods that shop with HTC. Some widgets like custom clocks or weather, toggles, shortcuts etc. Launching the camera from locakscreen was surely the first one, more to come.

Keyboard

On Android, you always got choice for Keyboards, but the stock keyboard always delivers the best experience. With Android Jelly Bean, we would finally see split keyboard and other touch improvements in Stock Keyboard. Google could also release a gestures based input like Swype and Swiftkey.

Timely upgrades

Right now, It takes 3-6months for the OEMs to provide updates for the ir android phones. This would change and Google continues to kill fragmentation. Google would de-couple UI customizations from the Core OS so as to enable manufacturers to apply customizations to Stock AOSP Android in the minimum time, hence pushing faster updates to everyone.

Notification Toggle switches
Like HTC Sense, Samsung Touchwiz and Cyanogenmod, Stock Android would get toggle keys int he noticiation area to turn on/off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS etc.

Battery Efficient
ICS 4.0 already save lot of battery by improving the Hardware acceleration and Dalvik VM optimizations. Jellybean would go a step further and let user take more control over how services behavior. There’s a lot to be done here in order to prevent third party apps from misbehaving. A stock OS without any 3rd party apps gives impressive battery life. Google needs to tackle misbehaving 3rd party albums, right away.

Performance Improvements
Jellybean would support quadcore and multicore processors out fo the box. Dalvik VM might be tuned for Multi-core performance. ICS & Honeycomb were the first one to get full hardware acceleration. This would improve further with Jellybean and Android 6.0

Sony GTV can be rooted with GTVHacker Sony Recovery Downgrader & Rebooter. This method allows you to Run Custom unsigned Kernel, custom ROMs on Google TV, post rooting.

The method is universal ands completely bypasses the signatures normally used by the system: bootloader, kernel, and init binary. This hack offers following features:

Modified flash plugin with random per box flash string for Content Provider Bypass.

Crippled update feature to prevent box from receiving automatic updates.

Completely RW system, cache, and rootfs partitions

Full ADB Root (for developers)

Removed signature checks on kernel / init scripts / init binary

BETA: Enable NTFS Support for Sony Google TV devices

This update requires 4 USB sticks (512Mb+) and is a 100% softmod (No soldering required!).

Notes, Important considerations for Sony GTV Root

This voids your warranty with Sony.

This will wipe your data partition removing all apps, personal settings and resetting the GTV to factory settings.

This may brick your GTV. It shouldn’t, but it still might!

You must be at the most recent 3.2 OTA (Over The Air) before proceeding!

Installing, Flashing custom ROM to your modern Android smartphones increments the Flash counter each time. Manufacturers use this counter to void your warranty when they detect a counter >zero.

This Flash counter increments each time you flash a Custom ROM. However, Chainfire brings a superb Tool to Reset Flash counter on Android phones like Samsung Galaxy SII, Galaxy Note.

TriangleAway will let you reset your flash counter and remove the yellow triangle by coding the bootloader. Of course, it works only on rooted android with Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

As per Chainfire & Team Hacksung claim that the flash counter and triangle state had to be stored somewhere. You can dump and compare the entire /dev/block/mmcblk0 and you won’t find a difference. The solution comes with the new kernel uses by ICS builds. The flash disk actually has two hidden boot partitions, /dev/block/mmcblk0boot0 and /dev/block/mmcblk0boot1 . The MMC driver in the kernels used for Gingerbread did not present these partitions in the past, the MMC driver in the ICS kernel does.

This isn’t easily doable on Gingerbread. That is also why this currently does not work on the SGNote. When ICS is released for the SGNote it’ll probably be compatible out of the box, or trivial to make it compatible.

Soon as more official ICS firmwares become available, much more devices will be able to use this interesting tool which should be used for experts only.

You can Enable Virtual buttons on Any Android Ice Cream Sandwich ROM (Android 4.0.x), with a simple trick.

You must follow the instructions below very carefully in order to get Virtual buttons on ICS.

Step 1: Use any: ES File explorer or Root explorer to copy system > framework > framework-res.apk to PC.

Step 2: Keep a backup of the original APK & Decompile the copied APK using APK Tool. APK Tool 1.4.3 would work fine.

Step 3: Open /res/values/bools.xml using a text editor, find config_showNavigationBar and set its value to true.

Step 4: (Optional) Optionally you can turn off backlight for your hardware capacitive buttons. To do this, edit arrays.xml. Search for config_autoBrightnessButtonBacklightValues and set all item values to ’0′ (i.e.zero).

Step 5: To avoid keyboard overlapping problem, you need to adjust the dimensions for the virtual buttons.Open dimens.xml, find navigation_bar_height and edit its value to something which suits you best. 37.0dip should be good.

Step 6: Compile the APK using aapt. Copy the modified APK back to system > framework.

You should now have enabled onscreen Virtual soft button for back, home and multitasking. Capacitive buttons will be disabled for some users, for others, they would continue to work.

But what happens to older devices? There’s an app for that. You can use just about any android device and attach peripherals like Keyboard, mouse, Hard disk via USB. The app is called USB Host controller and does exactly what it claims.

Application shows enumerated usb devices, and allows you to mount external mass storage devices to the filesystem. Supports advanced features like the ability to reload partition tables and reseting USB devices. It can also control the USB Host functionality of S5PC210 devices with the appropriate kernel patch (more about this later)

Of course, device needs to be rooted to use this app.

To start with, you would need:

A photo Editing program (GIMP and Photoshop are the best.)

A text editor besides notepad or wordpad. (Notepad++)

An archive manager (7-Zip or WinRAR)

Here’s a summary of what you need to do, full description can be found at XDA forum:

Step 1: Folders
So in this step, we need to make folders. The number of folders depends on what type of animation you want. You can name the folders anything you want as long as they are reflected in your desc.txt

Step 2: Images
So this section will be a generalization of the images. Each image in the video is called a frame. They usually vary slightly from image to image which sped through makes the illusion of a video.

-Each frame must be 480*800 px (thats 480 pixels wide by 800 pixels tall) in png format.

Step 3: Placing images in folders
This step will vary from user to user. based on what type of animation you are making.

Intro to loop (2 folders):
With this one, you are going to place all of the images that is to be the intro to folder 1.
All looping images will go into folder 2.

Step 4: desc.txt
This is the ‘script’ that tells android how to animate the screen.

Step 5: Packaging

1. Highlight all of your folders and desc.txt and right click > “Add to archive…”
2. On the left side, change the radio buttons from rar to zip
3. Change compression method to “store”
4. Name the file. For now, you can name it anything. Eventually, it will need to be named “bootanimation.zip”

The final zip would have to be placed on your android in the right directory: copy bootanimation.zip to /system/customize/resource.

Gingerbread brought Native SIP support to Android for Calling over Wifi, 3G, without a voice plan. However, there are no straightforward guides around the web that talk about it.

Compatibility: Method works for: All Gingerbread 2.3.x Stock roms, AOSP roms, MIUI roms and Sense roms, worked for me on all.

Note: This guide is for windows, however, it works as-is on Linux, Mac OSX.

Step 1. Pull Framework-res.apk from your ROM’s zip file. Ideal path is /system/framework directory.

Step 2. Extract both files that you downloaded to c:\apktools. You should see 3 extracted files. Copy the framework-res.apk to the same directory: c:\apktools

Step 3. Run CMD on windows, Terminal on OSX, Windows and run the following commands:

cd \apktools
apktools d framework-res.apk temp

Step 4. A folder named temp will appear. Inside temp, edit the file: C:\apktools\temp\res\values\bools.xml
Search the following line:

<bool name=”config_sip_wifi_only”>true</bool>

change ”true” to “false” and save the file.

Step 5. On Terminal/ CMD run apktools again.

c:
cd \apktools
apktools b temp temp.apk

Step 6. Now rename your original framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.zip. Open it with winrar/winzip/7zip it will open like regular archive. take the file that was created by the build process:
C:\apktools\temp\build\apk\resources.arsc

Step 7. Use this file to replace the file inside the archive of framerwork-res.apk.zip (overwriting the original, inside the zip)
rename the file back to framework-res.apk.

Congratulations, now you have a sip over 3g enabled framework-res.apk.

Step 8. Just replace it in your ROM zip and flush the ROM, you need to wipe cache and dalvik cache.

AndroGET is simple, yet effective third-party offering gives you total control over your downloads. It allows filesize of upto 2GB. It also includes the many features you’d expect of a download manager such as queuing, acceleration, pause-stop-resume, proxy support and basic HTTP authentication.

It supports a number of file sharing sites, and has been tested with both Mediafire and Uploadbaz. With many such services now only offering limited access (Fileserve, Filesonic et al) in light of the well-documented MegaUpload closure, we’re currently at a point where it’s hard to find a reliable service which won’t cave to FBI fear.

It works seamlessly with stock android browser and Dolphin hd browser. We also checked that it works fine with Skyfire, Firefox and Opera. Down the line, developer promises FTP support, credentials management for FTP & basic HTTP authentication, batch download support, download scheduling & queue automation as well as improved support for the rapidly declining number of file sharing sites.

To summarize, Features:

Supports large file (up to 2 GB)

Supports downloading from browsers or email via link share (press and hold the link in a page, choose Share link, and then select AndroGET from the list that shows up)

Download Queue

Download Acceleration

Pause, stop, resume or retry in case of error.

File Overwrite/Rename

HTTP/HTTP(s) downloads with proxy support

basic HTTP authentication

Dropbox support

Supports a number of file sharing sites(tested with Mediafire and Uploadbaz)

Visual Notifications

Browser compatibility:

Android Stock Browser

UC Browser

Dolphin HD & Mini

Opera Mobile & Mini

Firefox

Boat Browser

Enough for an app thats free. Isn’t it?

A fully playable version of Counter Strike is available on Android. Unfortunately, its not on Androidmarket, and its not even a port. ITs built from scratch using the Unity3d engine.

The game developer has released various versions of the app in order to make it work almost all android phones with different hardware. It is compatible with android 2.0+ devices, which is like 95% of the android world.

For users with android 2.0+, use 5o version and if you have 2.3+ then the 6p version will work well.

Checkout Gameplay of CounterStrike on Android:

Its snappy, and elegant even on single core 1Ghz devices like Galaxy S. The online play is smooth and brilliant. Works across PC -Android online plays. The game looks a replica of the original and all the popular maps have been retained for the mobile version. There are minor bells and whistles but it should get better over time. Developer is providing full support for the app, so in case you’ve troubles you can follow the link at the bottom of the post.

Controls are nice but they take some time to get used to, just like GTA 3, and Modern combat 3. You can host Online games, challenge friends. It works well with Xperia Play as well.

Among the other devices we tested: Galaxy SII, Galaxy Note, performance was superb.

Get it from XDA page.

Motorola is now pushing the Official update to it’s Motorola XOOM, giving it Android 4.0.3 ICe Ceream Sandwich. Xoom gets the stock Android ICS giving it the pure Google Experience. The update ICS 4.0.3 is available for Wi-Fi-only Xoom tablet, as of now.

If you have modified your device in anyway you will need to downgrade to build version HTK75D in order to proceed. The update is also only applicable to the U.S Wi-Fi Xoom. we’re not reposible for any damages caused for any other versions of Xoom tablet.

How to Flash / Install Android 4.0.3 Ice cream Sandwich on Xoom

Step 1: Download the zip and place it on a USB pen/flash drive.

Step 2. Connect the UB pen drive to Xoom using a host cable.

Step 3. R3boot into recovery:

Reboot and after the Motorola logo is displayed for approximately three seconds; press the volume down button. The Android recovery logo will appear in the top right hand corner, at this point press volume up to select it. Once booted into recovery the only thing you should see on screen is an Android logo. If you wish to dismiss this menu press the volume up and down buttons together.

Step 4. From the stock recovery menu, choose update from zip and then browse the zip file placed on flash drive.

Sit back and relax as recovery does its magic. You will reboot into Android 4.0.3 ICS soon after.

The first thing you need to do is to install the adb/fastboot drivers.

Step 1. The easiest ones to use are PdaNet for Android, download and run the 32-bit Windows 7/Vista/XP or 64-bit Windows 7/Vista and follow the instructions to install (selecting Samsung as your device manufacturer if asked). You can remove PdaNet later.

Step 2. When drivers are installed, unplug the usb cable and power off the phone. Press and Hold the ‘Volume Up’ and ‘Volume Down’ buttons and press the ‘Power’ button to boot the phone into FastBoot Mode.

Step 3. On Windows, goto Device Manager to verify that the FastBoot driver is installed. Now connect the usb cable. In the Device Manager a new item called ‘Android 1.0′ should pop up and then the driver should install automatically. You manually isntall the driver if it fails by selecting ‘browse my computer’ and then ‘Let me pick from a list’. If you’re still stuck with driver, use this guide or Universal Drivers made by 1wayjonny here.

Phase 2. How to Use MSKIPS’ Galaxy Nexus ToolKit v3.0

Step 1. Extract the files from the archive you downloaded initially and put your phone into Fastboot Mode (Hold ‘Volume Up’ and ‘Volume Down’ buttons whilst pressing the ‘Power’ Button) and run the RUNME.bat file

Note: Do not run this in admin mode, or it would cease to work. With V3.0 you can also connect your phone whilst it is in Android as you can boot to Fastboot from the MainMenu.

Step 2. The first screen gives you information about setting up adb/fastboot drivers if you havent done already. The second screen gives information on the various options available from the Main Menu. The next screen will ask you which model and Build you have (GSM or LTE) and set up the Main Menu accordingly.

Step 3. When you enter the Main Menu you will see ‘Serial Number’ at the top. If you have installed your drivers correctly then you will see your phones serial number under Fastboot Mode or Adb Mode depending on your connection. If you see this then your device is connected and you can carry on. Each option has full information on what it is and how to use it.

Step 4. After you have finished you can either boot straight into CWM Recovery to flash a Custom Rom (if you have already downloaded one and copied it to the root of your Internal Memory on your phone) or boot back into Android as normal.

People have started living their lives better, overcoming most of their problems. Over the past decade, smartphones have taken the world by storm with their amazing operating systems. This is due to both hardware and specialized software that these devices run and their operating systems. There has been rapid increase in the development of different mobile operating systems alongside other technological advancements.

Android has become the leading smartphone OS in the world with its distinct features. It is an operating system for smartphones and tablet computers, using a system which is open source, based on Linux, owned by Google, backed by all major mobile device manufacturers including HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Dell, Sony Ericsson, LG and many more. It allows endless customization. Initially, it was developed by Android Inc. and purchased by Google in 2005. Android runs on hundreds of devices including smartphones and tablets. Android has left behind iOS and is the most widely used smartphone in the world.

OS use and spy Software development

A mobile operating system is the operating system that controls the mobile device or information appliance. An operating system is responsible for determining the functions and features available on your device and determines what third party applications will be used on your mobile. Operating systems allow easy installation for applications in mobile phones, just like they do for computers. The development of android spy software is another addition in the field of mobile applications. They prove to be very efficient in fulfilling your monitoring needs where you want to keep a check on your target’s cell phone activities. In today’s fast-paced world, one is unable to give the required time and attention to relations which in turn creates insecurities and doubts in your life. The use of spy software is one way of leading a doubt and tension-free life as it caters to most of your monitoring needs with its features.

STEALTHGENIE AND ITS FEATURES

StealthGenie is a popular spy software application that helps you keep a check on your target’s cell phone activities. It helps you monitor:
