Nexus S, Gingerbread SDK Review
December 6, 2010
Google Nexus S, as rumored, is manufactured by Samsung, powered with the new Android 2.3 “Gingerbread“. The phone would bring the pure Android experience with no customizations.
The Nexus S is a hybrid of Samsung Galaxy S. It is significantly faster than the Nexus One both because of Hardware and new OS. The screen is Super AMOLED 400 x 800.
The phone also becomes the first Android smartphone capable of NFC, near field communications.
Google Experience:
Nexus S Video Intro:
The Design:
The phone is sleeker than the Nexus One, but the black plastic case doesn’t feel that good. The feel is definitely not solid. It is very thin and light – just 4.55 ounces with dimensions are 63mm x 123.9mm x 10.88mm (slightly thicker, taller and wider than the iPhone 4, and with a larger screen).
Hardware:
The Nexus S is not dual core processor, but rather uses the 1 GHz Hummingbird processor (same as Galaxy S), but Gingerbread’s hardware acceleration had brought th true potential of the hardware, as aresult, it feels much better than Froyo.
The super AMOLED 4″ display is superb, even better than Galaxy S with richer blacks than iPhone 4.
Battery life: Unlike most Android phones, the battery is good – much, much better than Nexus One. you would practically get 6+ hours of heavy voice/data usage, thanks to the powerful 1500 mAh Lithium Ion battery.
Camera: Gingerbread expands the camera support to dual camera. Rear facing is still 5 megapixel camera, with a flash, the front one is a VGA camera. Both perform well when used for any app.
Sensors: Nexus S also gets gyroscope, along with accelerometer, compass, proximity sensor, haptic feedback and a light sensor.
Memory: It comes with 16 GB of internal flash memory, but no room for expansion.
Rest is pretty much similar to Galaxy S, Nexus One.
Apart from all that, the greatness is in Gingerbread too, with a powerful new API which allows developers to do more with new GingerBread Features:
- SIP-based VOIP
- Near Field Communications (NFC)
- Gyroscope and other sensors
- Multiple cameras support
- Mixable audio effects
- Download manager
- StrictMode -monitor performance of apps
- UI Framework – Overscroll, touch filtering, activity control, text selecton, webview
- Extra Large Screen support
- Graphics: full OpenGL ES 2.0
- Improvements in ContentProvider, Location, Dalvik VM performance (parallel GC)

The Availability
Google will not be selling this phone directly to consumers. Phone will be available initially at Best Buy in the U.S. (on T-Mobile) and Carphone Warehouse in the U.K. Google says the phone is currently expected to be available starting December 16, although pre-orders might be taken earlier.
Samsung Galaxy 2 i9100 features Dual Core processor
November 15, 2010
Mobile phone blogging expert Eldar Murtazin has tweeted today that he was playing with both the recently spotted a dual-core Samsung Galaxy 2 GT-i9100.
This phone could be related to upcoming Official Google Phone — Nexus with Dual core — since they are similar by the fact that they will be among the first smartphones with dual-core.
We just don’t know. All we know is that the version he was playing with was running Android 2.1, but will get 2.3 later.
On another note, Eldar also tweeted that the Sony Ericsson Anzu isn’t as “flagship” as people think, saying that it isn’t better than the Desire HD — which is available now — but won’t be available until March 2011, setting it back in terms of relative specifications.
The processor seems to be Cortex-A9-based Orion.
Nexus S – Official Google Android GingerBread Phone
November 11, 2010
Till now we were calling it Nexus Two, but seems like BestBuy leaks a adifferent name: Nexus S. S for Samsung or Speed, we don’t know, but its being dubbed as Pure Google phone.
Best Buy’s published a section on their mobile site saying that the “Pure Google” Nexus S is available only at Best Buy this holiday season. The BestBuy’s deal shows that it would be available on T-mobile during holidays.
We still can’t confirm that the device exists, but retailers usually do have early access to information on new devices so that they can begin plans to advertise and stock them.
Everything so far looks real and goes with the rumors of Gingerbread so far. The Nexus S is real, and while it may have been delayed, it’s possible we could still see it before Christmas.

Samsung Nexus Two gets Early Review
October 29, 2010
As we reported earlier, Samsung’s Nexus two is real and get reviewed early.
As one of the Giz’s sources claim, ”When I first saw it from 10 feet away, I thought it was the Galaxy S, I was a little surprised it was the Nexus Two” .
Unlike Nexus One, it’s black and shiny, built with glossy robust plastic. It has got those curvy looks that first made impressions with iPhone 3g, though even more sleeker, sexier.
The screen is essentially similar: Super AMOLED 4″. The tapering work is nicely done and makes it feel alot thinner than Galaxy S, though it might be about the same thickness.
However, little is known about the phone’s internals, it can be a ginat step ahead with 2Ghz processor or could be old boring 1Ghz snapdragon.
Google’s working hard to get Google Talk Video Chat into Gingerbread, but even if it doesn’t make it in this release, a update later can bring it without creating any sort of trouble.
Note: Image is just rough estimate for the device, actual product differs slightly.
Samsung Nexus Two: Official Android Gingerbread Phone
October 28, 2010
Thinking of buying a new Android phone, behold for 2weeks, a bigger and faster phone is on the horizon.
One of the trusted sources on androidandme has claimed that its nearly confirmed that the new collaboration will formulate the future of Android.
Google and Samsung will announce the Nexus Two (or Nexus S ?) at a press conference on November 8th in New York city. The phone will be the first device to ship with Gingerbread (Android 2.3 or 3.0) and it will be available immediately. Today, virtually everyone agrees that Samsung Galaxy S offered the best combination of hardware. But Samsung has always been lagging int the game as most geeks prefer running the latest & the greatest in android, which is a serious drawback for them and thats why people often choose HTC and Motorola.
Recently, there were rumors that Samsung is Building Galaxy S2 with awesome specs: 2Ghz, 1gb RAM, 1080p video, etc, is this the same phone? If its is, it will kick the hell out of others.
Its not sure who will sell this phone in the U.S., but Carphone Warehouse will be the exclusive retailer in the UK.
Google might be considering a new OEM every year, that perfectly makes sense as they would treat all OHA members alike for years to come and also benefit customers with wider aspiring options.
